From the authors of It's No Accident, the definitive book on childhood toileting troubles, comes a supportive, engaging, highly informative, and cleverly illustrated book for children from preschool through elementary age. Little ones will love Dr. Pooper and the wily rabbit. Older kids will appreciate the respectful tone and amusing illustrations. A must-read for preschool and elementary teachers and family therapists, too! Readers will learn what really causes most accidents: a clogged colon, which presses on and irritates the bladder. The book urges families not wait around for children to outgrow accidents or bedwetting and explains how to make the troubles stop for good. A Q&A with Dr. Hodges at the end explains the research behind his approach. This book is an ideal companion to It's No Accident, which explains in detail the therapies described in Bedwetting and Accidents Aren't Your Fault.

Great "Cliff's Notes" and our three year old likes it
I guess I'll be the first person to review this book. It's so new that it still smelled like printing ink when we got it!
If you're not familiar with the It's No Accident book, then this children's companion book it's going to sound really weird to you. It would still be helpful to children and adults unfamiliar with main book, but it's not a typical children's potty training book. So know that before you buy.
We are working with our pediatrician and following the It's No Accident book protocol, so this children's book has been very helpful to our three and a half year old. He likes this book and wants to read it every day, often while he's on the toilet :)
As the person reading the book, it can be a little confusing to know when to read which parts because there is the main text, LOTS of character thought bubbles, signs, etc. It takes a few reads to find your stride. But it's more of a free form read, and for young children who like books to be predictable this can be...
Accurate and Educational
As a physical therapist that treats children with bowel and bladder incontinence, as well as constipation and other conditions I have found this book to be very helpful and valuable. There are no other books that I have found yet that provide the content that this book offers, as well as being appropriate for a wider range of ages. The information that is presented is not only accurate and evidenced based, but it is explained in a way that kids can relate to and understand. It is also nice that the information is presented at a level that both younger kids can learn form but older kids are not bored with or turned off from. So far my favorite page that I keep referring back to with the kids is the one with the stretched out T-shirt picture resembling the rectum. It is helping kids and parents understand the implications of getting stretched out and why things can take time to improve. Some of the pages in this book have a large amount of information so I actually find it...
A great help to my 6 y.o. daughter
I'm grateful to have found this after so much frustration, anxiety, and misery dealing with my 6-year-old daughter's bedwetting. I first learned about the book on Dr. Laura Markham's FB page (she is my parenting guru). Then I heard her interview with Dr. Hodges, which was eye-opening. I finally put the pieces of the puzzle together and realized my daughter's issue was probably due to constipation. I immediately ordered the book and had it in hand when an x-ray at the pediatrician confirmed it. I feel lucky our doctor was on board with the x-ray and took me seriously. We did a laxative clean-out and it was so great for my daughter to have this book during the process. It took away so much of her fear and embarrassment, and it made her feel like, well, as the title says, it wasn't her fault! She also got a real kick out of Dr. Pooper -- what kid wouldn't love that name? -- and the bunny rabbit. She has had her first dry nights ever and wants to go on her first sleepover. BTW, the poop...

The best potty training guide!!!
As a pediatric nurse & father of a 15 year old young man, the potty training methods in this book are priceless! I was surprised to learn that 50% of the world's children are potty trained by 1 year old (except in America). A child that can verbally express themselves will be the most successful with potty training (in my opinion), as communication is very important to executing the methods in this book.
You will also learn:
-The power of including your child in the potty selection process.
-The importance of what food to stop, start and continue for best results during potty training.
-potty seat vs. potty chair (PROS & CONS of both)
-Inspirational: Principles of Success
-Why accidents only add to learning and so much more....

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a little one that needs potty training and even all expecting parents should read it too. I will definitely recommend to all my patients 6 months and older! ;)...
Potty Training
I am a grandma that does day care for my daughter's two boys, one is six months the other is twenty eight months. Grandma has decided it is time to begin potty training. I find this book informative, mommy is also reading the book so we are both on the same page with the training. I don't expect miracles, but feel all these suggestions will definitely help. Grandma is going into this with a very positive attitude, and a very loving heart.

Potty training fast and simple..,
I bought this book for my daughter who is starting to potty train my grand daughter at 20 months. She is so happy that she has a guide rather than trying to work it all out for herself. It has made the whole process not only painless but the book is effective as my grand daughter is responding to the techniques, its five stars from her and so five stars from me as well!

Awesome book, but there may be an alternative to laxatives...
Here is a three bullet-point version for the TLDR crew. (TLDR = Too Long, Didn't Read)

1. This book has answers when it comes to the cause of bed wetting. Simple is so genius.

2. For some cases that may even seem to be extreme, enemas and other laxatives may not even be needed. Magnesium supplementation may be enough to fix the situation entirely in a as little as a week. "Most magnesium supplements are junk" might be too strong, but ones like Natural Calm found on Amazon are very effective and (most) kids can at least learn to enjoy them.

3. The book mentions switching to soy milk as an alternative to the constipation-inducing cow's milk. Intolerance is mentioned as a possibility of cow's milk producing bowel problems. While soy may help with constipation problems, it comes with its own set of problems that I would personally consider to be worse than constipation. Get educated on both sides of the argument and make a decision. I think that a...
Excellent book; all parents (and all pediatricians) should read it
[Updated/Revised 3-26-14]: Until recently, first-grade daughter had never been dry at night. For years we were told not to worry about it, and that children eventually grow out of it. But she had reached an age where it was upsetting to her, and recently she had to turn down her first sleepover invitation because she was embarrassed about wearing nighttime pullups.

It may be true that most kids do eventually grow out of bedwetting. But this book makes a compelling argument that, in most cases, there is an underlying cause that (A) can be easily addressed (thus leading to a complete resolution of the problem); and (B) could turn into a much bigger problem if left untreated for too long. If that's the case, then we do a disservice to our children by just "waiting for them to grow out of it." Months and years go by; the child feels embarrassed despite the parent's best efforts to reassure her; and the underlying problem gets worse and and worse. If there's a practical,...
saved my life
I recently ran into Steve Hodges at the medical center where I work as an RN. He was carrying a copy of his book. It caught my attention because I have a 10-year-old that has been a bed wetter her entire life. I stopped him and asked him about it. He explained the concept of the book. I told Steve that I didn't think my child was constipated because she pooped every day. He said that I might be surprised. I had been discussing this bedwetting problem with my child's pediatrician regularly over the years and he assured me that she would grow out of it. He had printed out the UpToDate information sheet on bedwetting that included most of the same information that I had previously read. We had tried bedwetting alarms on and off for years without success. I was ready to explore anything that might help. I got the book and started reading it. It's an easy read with lots of great information about the physiology of the problem and treatment options including medication, dietary...
